Drop, Shop & Save

The Garment Collection Program

By Karen S. Savir September 18, 2018

As one of the world's largest retailers, H&M is part  of "The Garment Collection Program", a global initiative to reduce waste poured into landfills and creating more sustainable fashion for now and the future.  Participating in this campaign has never been more rewarding, especially if you love shopping:

Step 1: Bring your unwanted garments in a bag to your nearest H&M store (in our case, Jefferson Valley Mall in Yorktown Heights)

Step 2: Customer Service will give you a 15% off voucher to use

Step 3: Find your favorite must - haves for the fall season and show the sales assistant your voucher

Step 4: You will save 15% off your total purchase and be one happy shopper!

So what happens to your old, unwanted garments that are missing buttons, broken zippers and have holes in random spots?

All are sent to the nearest recycling plant where they are sorted and closely looked at by hand.  Some are converted into products in the cleaning industry like sponges, wash cloths while some may be recycled into products in the auto industry.  If your items were in good condition, it will be resold worldwide at second hand retailers and organizations.

* Your unwanted clothing can be any brand and condition of all sizes.

Participating in H&M's The Garment Collection Program was part of my "Simplify September" campaign in which hundreds of Macaroni Kid Publishers nationwide are participating in for the month of September.
